Hardfacing's purpose is to restore dimensions of worn surfaces of used implements by depositing new and improved material to extend their useful working life. Alternatively, when applied to a new part, to protect a common metal with a layer of a complex alloy presenting different characteristic properties that better resist wear, abrasion, impact or corrosion, to improve the usefulness of the original item.
