		Medical Nitrous Oxide USP This colorless anesthetic gas, with a slightly sweetish odor and taste, is about one and a half times as heavy as air. Nitrous Oxide is nonflammable, but it is an oxidizer and will support combustion of flammable materials. Nitrous Oxide is not life supporting and can act as an asphyxiant by displacing air. Caution:

Nitrous oxide has anesthetic properties at high concentration and can induce hysteria, dizziness, unconsciousness, and death. Some epidemiological studies suggest that long term exposure may have certain health hazards, including neurological and reproductive effects. The National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) has recommended a worker exposure limit TWA of 25ppm during anesthetic and analgesic administration.
Always use in accordance with the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS)
Cylinder must be stored and used in an upright, secured position in a well-ventilated or monitored area.
Always follow local fire code requirements when storing cylinder of flammable, oxidizer, or toxic gases.

Medical Applications for Nitrous Oxide USP As an analgesic, often in combination with other agents for anestheisa. Also used in cryosurgery.
Nitrous Oxide (N2O) Used as an anesthetic, a leak detection fluid and as an oxidizing gas. It is also used in pressure packaging of foods such as whipped cream. Nitrous Oxide is used as a fuel for atomic absorption spectrophotometers when analyzing heavy metals.
